Peer Tutor Job Description

Peer Tutors & Peer Success Coach Job Description

Title: Peer Tutor or Peer Success Coach

Rate: $12.75 Per/hr

Hours: Per Diem (During Student Success Center open hours or by appointment)

 Students must complete an application process to become a tutor or peer success coach.

  • Tutors and Peer Success Coaches must:
    • be a current student in good academic standing (overall GPA of a 2.7 or higher) and maintain their academic standing
    • have completed the specific course with a grade of B or higher
    • have faculty approval or provide a transcript from a previous college indicating good academic standing and the appropriate grade for the course.
  • Peer Success Coaches must:
    • be a current student in good academic standing (overall GPA of 2.5 or higher) and maintain their academic standing
    •  have completed one (1) semester – twelve (12) credits of college level work
    • must have effective communication skills as demonstrated in a faculty/staff recommendation
  • Tutors and Academic Coaches
    • are paid every two (2) weeks
    • payment is based on actual hours worked as shown on submitted bi-weekly time sheets
    • may be asked to provide assistance to small groups, individuals, or workshop settings

Student Success Center Student Worker

Job Title: Student Success Ambassador 

Department: Lunder Student Success Center

Rate of Pay: $12.75/hour 

Length of Time: Semester/Academic Year 

Department Description:  

The Lunder Student Success Center is a one-stop shop serving the campus community with academic, library and technology services.  This is also a space to study, use computers, print, and relax. 

Job Description:   

The Student Success Ambassador works at the information desk in the Center. This position assists students, staff, and faculty with a variety of needs and guides them to the services they seek. Within the Center, the assistant will oversee the space by: ensuring that printers and photocopier are in working order; keeping the space neat, wiping down workstations and workspaces, etc.; trouble-shooting in-house technology issues as they arise and contacting IT as necessary.

Job Location / Hours Required:   

Alfond Campus, Averill Success Center Rm 203, and/or Fairfield Campus, Lunder Hall 

5 – 20 hours per week  

Responsibilities:  

  • work collaboratively with the entire Student Success Center staff

  • schedule testing and tutoring for students 

  • photocopy and scan documents as needed

  • assist with library tasks, which include shelving, the use of the circulation system to check out materials and equipment, and assisting the librarians with special projects 

  • provide occasional database and research assistance under the direction of the librarians

  • help students/staff with equipment such as laptops, computers, iPads, copier and printers  

  • create documents using Microsoft Word

  • help design and implement mini-workshops 

  • perform other duties as needed   

Required Qualifications:   

  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office with an ability to create documents and the willingness to learn additional computer software

  • attention to detail is critical  

  • commitment to providing excellent customer service  

  • punctuality, dependability, and excellent writing and oral communication skills  

Desired Skills:   

  • strong writing and interpersonal skills  

  • familiarity with and enthusiasm for working with technology
