Job Title: Student Success Ambassador 

Department: Advising Center

Rate of Pay: $14.15/hour (minimum wage)

Length of Time: Semester Contract

Job Location: Alfond Campus, Averill Hall Rm 203, and/or Fairfield Campus, Lunder Hall 

Hours Required:  5 – 20 hours per week  

Job Description:   

The Student Success Ambassador works at the information desk in Lunder or Averill. This position assists students, staff, and faculty with a variety of needs and guides them to the services they are seeking. Within Lunder or Averill, the assistant will oversee the space by ensuring that printers and photocopier are in working order; keeping the space neat, wiping down workstations and workspaces, etc.; trouble-shooting in-house technology issues as they arise and contacting IT as necessary. The Ambassador will also work on projects and events as assigned by the Advising Center.

Responsibilities:  

  • work collaboratively with the entire Student Success Center staff, which may include contributing to events and projects
  • assist students with referrals to academic support services
  • photocopy and scan documents as needed
  • provide back-up assistance with checking in/out library materials.
  • help students/staff with equipment such as laptops, computers, iPads, copier and printers  
  • create documents using Microsoft Word and/or Canva
  • help design and implement workshops 
  • perform other duties as needed   

Required Qualifications:   

  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Canva with an ability to create documents and the willingness to learn additional computer software
  • keen attention to detail
  • commitment to providing excellent customer service  
  • punctuality, dependability, and excellent writing and oral communication skills

Job Title: Peer Tutors 

Department: Advising Center 

Rate of Pay: $14.15/hour (minimum wage) 

Length of Time: Semester Contract 

Job Location: Alfond Campus, Averill Hall Rm 203, and/or Fairfield Campus, Lunder Hall , and/or virtual online

Hours: Will range per student needed and availability

Job Description: Peer tutors are students who provide academic support to their fellow students. They offer necessary academic guidance in specific subject areas in which they have demonstrated proficiency and/or support utilizing the tools to become self-sufficient learners. Peer tutors aim to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Peer tutors will document interaction with students and participate in monthly meetings for the academic support team on campus. Peer tutors may also participate in events and workshops delivered by the Student Success Team.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions, as well as staff open drop-in support hours.
  • Assist peers in understanding course concepts and completing assignments.
  • Share effective study techniques and organizational skills.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to fellow students.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students and faculty.
  • Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere for learning.
  • Encourage students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide support for exam preparation and project completion.

Required Qualifications: Eligible candidates must:

  • be a current student in good standing (cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher) and maintain academic standing.
  • have completed at least one semester (12 credits) of college coursework.
  • have knowledge in the subject matter, demonstrated through successful completion of the course to be supported with a grade of “B” or higher
  • have effective oral and written communication skills and academic promise as demonstrated in a faculty/staff recommendation
  • have working knowledge of the learning management software and Office 365, as well as a willingness to learn additional computer software
  • be punctual, dependable, and professional

Rate: Contacted Professional tutors are compensated using the following pay scale based on highest level of earned credential:

  • $20.00/hour for Associate’s Degree
  • $22.00/hour for Bachelor’s Degree
  • $25.00/hour for Master’s Degree or higher

Length of Time: Semester Contract

Hours: Will range per student needed and availability

Job Description: Professional Tutors will provide expert academic support to students, helping them to understand course materials, develop study skills, and achieve academic success. They will work closely with students across various disciplines and often specialize in specific subject areas. Professional Tutors promote a sense of community and work to achieve the learning outcomes as defined by the KVCC for academic support services.

Job Duties: Depending on subject expertise, professional tutors may be required to perform the following duties:

  • Provide a high aptitude in the topic area(s) that are being tutored. Tutoring services for major subject areas including, but not limited to science, math (s), psychology, communications, early childhood, mental health courses, business, technology, sciences, online education and trades
  • Provide one-on-one or group tutoring sessions to students, in-person on the Fairfield and/or Alfond campus as well as virtually via Zoom or TEAMS, during open hours or by appointment – some nights and weekends may be required to meet the needs of the student. Staffing open drop-in hours for student support may also be required.
  • Participate in planning, arranging, and providing student success skills and/or TEAS workshops.
  • Assist students in understanding and mastering course material.
  • Help students develop effective study strategies and time management skills.
  • Collaborate with faculty to understand course content and expectations.
  • Track and document student progress and provide feedback.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions.
  • Create and maintain a supportive and positive learning environment.
  • Utilize educational technology and resources to enhance tutoring sessions.
  • Provide assistance with writing, including brainstorming, drafting, and revising.
  • Offer support in test preparation, including standardized tests and exams.
  • Develop and host group workshops on key academic skills subjects.

Required Qualifications: Eligible candidates must:

  • hold an associate degree in a trade or technical field specific to the subject being tutored; a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is preferred.
  • have demonstrated an understanding of the field of study.
  • have the ability to promote a positive and safe learning atmosphere
