Advising does not only exist in the Advising Center.  All KVCC students are assigned an academic or faculty advisor.  Students can find their advisor's name and contact information under the Academics tab in the MyKV Portal.

Bio: Laurie grew up in rural Maine and has worked in higher education since 2005, starting at the University of Maine at Augusta and joining the KVCC community in 2021.  She earned her BA in English from Colby-Sawyer College, and holds a Master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of Maine, specializing in student development. Laurie believes that every student deserves to have a point of contact to help them navigate through their educational journey.  She believes that meaningful engagement inside and outside of the classroom can help students enrich their college experience and reach their educational goals.

Bio: Flora grew up in central Maine and began her career in education at New Hampshire Technical Institute as an adjunct instructor in Professional Development.  After joining Kennebec Valley Technical College in 1991 she served in several capacities.   Currently she is serving as the Dual and Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator working with high school students, parents, and guidance officers to assist the student in getting a jump start on their college career. She is also serving as the Academic Recovery Coach assisting students with a plan for success.  Flora believes that high school students should have an opportunity to attempt college classes and prove they can be successful in college, while they still have the support from family and school officials prior to leaving for college.  She also believes every student may need a helping hand now and then, and wants to be here to support their success.

Bio: Brooke grew up in central Maine, beginning her career in education through tutoring in the writing center and teaching college composition at the University of Maine. After teaching for two years, she joined the advising team at KVCC in 2022. She earned both her BA and MA in English from the University of Maine. Brooke believes that getting to know the whole picture of each student--from their values skills, and ambitions, to the day-to-day challenges they face--is the key to coming up with an individualized path towards success. She is committed to helping students plan and achieve their education and career goals in ways that target their needs as individuals. In doing this, she works to connect students to all of the resources and information needed to attain their goals.

Bio: Erica was born and raised in central Maine. Erica earned a B.A. in English from the University of Maine, a M.Ed. from Harvard University, and a M.B.A. from Boston College. She also earned a Career Development Facilitator (CDF) certification. Erica brings broad experience and a wide range of skills to the Advising Center. In addition to an extensive career in higher education, Erica has also worked in the corporate and non-profit sectors, including technology start-ups, marketing and public relations, fundraising, and human resources. Erica is excited to be returning to the KVCC community, where she worked previously as an administrator and an adjunct instructor. Erica believes in personalized advising and partnering with students to develop and meet their educational, personal, and career goals. Erica also believes in empowering students through access to resources and information and collaborating with colleagues across campus to ensure student success.

Bio: John is originally from Columbus, Ohio. His academic pursuits led him to Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, and Pennsylvania, before finally landing in central Maine. He earned a BA in History from Kenyon College, an MA in History from Boston College, and an MS in Information Science from SUNY Albany. John has extensive experience in higher education: teaching European, British, and Irish History in the classroom, working as a ghostwriter for a college president, and devoting himself to advising. John believes in helping students make a strong connection between their academic paths and their own personal/professional goals. He sees his task as making that connection manifest.

Bio: Tim grew up in Vermont and earned a B.S. in Secondary Education from the University of Vermont and after moving to Maine a M.B.A. from Thomas College. Tim has over 30 years of healthcare and business experience as the Director a large nonprofit corporation. He also has nine years of experience as Adjunct Faculty at SMCC. Tim believes that students should not have to navigate the college experience on their own and he looks forward to assisting students to make informed decisions that keep them on track, ultimately achieving their educational goals.
